Musically Minded - Week 2

Approaching a Bluegrass classic - Cattle in the Cane

What’s This All About?

Welcome to another edition of what I hope becomes a regular habit for me. I want to use this platform to update my students about my musical activities, thoughts, challenges, and show how I approach living a musical life as a busy dad and husband. My goal is to give you real-life examples of how to think about and structure your musical life, including practice, learning new musical ideas, pitfalls, and sharable moments. I spend most of my waking life thinking about music, practicing music, playing music, performing, or teaching music. How does that all fit into a busy family life? That’s what we’ll explore in these semi-weekly updates.

The Video - Bluegrass Coalition Song - Cattle in the Cane

This week’s format is a little different. I wanted to demonstrate a few sounds to go along with the thoughts this time.

I’m casually working on a new-to-me, but a classic Bluegrass tune, called “Cattle in the Cane.” Check out the Bluegrass Coalition details here, and I hope some of you will join me in submitting a break or two (I’m working on guitar and mandolin).

Music is more fun with friends. Share this post and get your buddies jamming along!

Let me know if you want specific ideas and how I am thinking about putting together my breaks for this. There are so many possibilities with this tune!
